All of us have been living through a strange experiment that took me a long time to put into a proper context: A fiat-driven welfare state. We’ve never had an operating structure like this one before. There have been welfare states aplenty and fiat regimes too. But a stable, fiat-driven welfare state is a creature of the past half century alone. And so it deserves a serious examination.
What we’ll see, in the end, is that this system, now dominant planet-wide, is unique in world history. By the time we’re done, we’ll examine a most likely scenario for the system’s end, but that’s not the important part: what matters is to see it… to understand how this system came together and especially what it distorted. We’ve been inside of this thing for a solid fifty years; so long that most people see it as a fact of nature.
